 | Guardalavaca Cuba | Situated in the eastern province of Holguin, the quiet resort of Guardalavaca is home to several idyllic beaches, each with a tiny cluster of hotels. The coral reefs, which can be found quite close in to the beaches, are rich with thriving marine life.
Fairly remote, Guardalavaca is the place to come for a relaxing beach holiday, though there is some beautiful countryside nearby, which can be explored by car or bicycle.
| | Havana | Simply put, if you go to Cuba, Havana is a must-see. Havana embodies all that is Cuban. Havana holds Cuba's soul. It's here that their history, their rhythm and melody, their pain and their majesty all manifest into something wholly unique.
Cuba is a symphony of sounds, rhythms, colors and dances. African beats merge with Spanish rhythms. French instruments play in harmony with Chinese. And instead of chaos, fighting or discord, there's a celebration of the differences, of the diversity (something all-too-rare in our world today). Persistence, resilience, hope are words that define the people of Cuba.
| | Santiago de Cuba | Cuba's second largest city, Santiago de Cuba, is very close behind Havana in terms of historical and cultural importance. Lying on a sheltered bay on the south-east coast, the city is a melting pot of numerous ethnic influences that have joined to produce a friendly, laid-back atmosphere famous for its music, dancing and hospitality.
Santiago de Cuba is bordered by the majestic Sierra Maestre mountains, offering a striking backdrop. The best beaches are a bit of a drive from the city, but there are numerous hideaway coves very nearby. Santiago de Cuba is rich with wonderful museums, incredibly friendly people, and is urban Cuba at its unspoiled best.
| | Varadero | Less than a two hour drive from Havana, the world-famous Varadero beach stretches some 20 kilometers along a narrow peninsula on the north coast of the island.
